Fashion Merchandising and Design

Mission of Fashion Merchandising and Design: To provide a high quality academic curriculum with an integrated, generalist approach that enables students to successfully function in the competitive fashion marketplace upon graduation while seeking academic excellence and Christian integrity.

Clothing is a basic need and necessity of everyday life. The underlying purpose of the fashion industry is to deliver a product to the market that will satisfy the consumer’s needs and wants. To equip students with the knowledge necessary to perform effectively in the marketplace, the Fashion Merchandising and Design program at Carson-Newman University encompasses the creation, distribution, and selling of a fashion product.

FMD students study a core of fashion-related courses including, but not limited to: Textiles, Apparel Design I and II, Presentation Techniques for Fashion, Merchandising I & II, and Fashion Advertising & Promotion. Through a variety of activities and unique learning tools, students develop critical thinking skills while also gaining valuable experience that will benefit them as they transition from students to successful professionals.
